Berlin, October 27.10.2023th, 10, 40:17 a.m. - In the middle of the Great Star in the center of Berlin, supporters of the Last Generation have attached a huge banner to the top of the Victory Column. The banner announces the planned mass occupation of the Street of June 12th this Saturday at XNUMX p.m. Yesterday more people marked the street itself with orange paint.
Like the successful protests of the Extinction Rebellion Netherlands, the planned mass occupation is on October 28.10th. under the motto: “Stop fossil subsidies”.
Rolf Meyer (56), Speaker of the Last Generation explains: “Huge amounts of tax money end up in the pockets of a few large corporations in the form of subsidies for fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil. Instead of investing in our future, our “climate chancellor” is fueling the climate catastrophe and social injustice. We must phase out fossil raw materials by 2030 at the latest. The first logical step is to stop subsidizing oil, gas and coal as quickly as possible!”
Recently, the “Ecological-Social Market Economy Forum” presented a study on behalf of Greenpeace that makes it transparent who benefits from the subsidies and what the first steps to dismantling them could look like: “Future plan for industry: Immediate program for the dismantling of climate-damaging subsidies”. [1]
Rolf Meyer explains further: “The necessary shift 'away from fossil fuels towards fairness' is being prevented by fossil fuel subsidies in the interests of a few large corporations. It is high time that we as a society stand up for our interests, for our survival. That’s why we’re going to take to the Street of June 28.10.2023th in Berlin on October 12th, 17 at XNUMX p.m. with many protesters and will occupy it.”
