Start of indefinite protests in Berlin:

Scholz urges expert council
from the stage

Berlin, October 13.09.2023, 15, 50:XNUMX a.m – With a protest march through Berlin, the Last Generation began its indefinite protests for an end to the use of fossil fuels by 2030. At the end of the protest march, demonstrators dressed as Olaf Scholz pushed the fictitious “members of the Council of Experts for Climate” off the stage to underline how incredibly disrespectful Olaf Scholz treats scientists. The first traffic blockades will be in place from Monday, September 18.09.2023, XNUMX.

Lina Johnsen, Speaker:in the Last Generation, explains: “Even the scientists from the Climate Expert Council note that the Scholz government is breaking the climate protection law - and Olaf Scholz simply claims the opposite. Olaf Scholz is not only disrespectful to his climate expert council, but also dishonest to the entire population. This dishonesty is already costing lives and causing the climate to continue to collapse at an ever-increasing rate. "

Lina Johnson explains further: “We can no longer afford Scholz's disrespect and dishonesty because we are in the middle of a climate catastrophe. We are witnessing how crucial elements are beginning to tip over, the Amazon is dying, the Gulf Stream is drying up, the Arctic is melting. People die every day as a result. Let’s face it – no matter what we do, things will never be the same again. And yet we haven't completely lost control yet. We are the last people who have the opportunity to mitigate the catastrophic consequences, prepare ourselves for what is to come and avert the collapse of society. But we have to start now. We will therefore block traffic in Berlin again and again from Monday, September 18.9.2023th, 2030 until Olaf Scholz finally recognizes the physical reality and ensures that we end the use of fossil fuels by XNUMX. "

The protest march began at 13 p.m. in front of the Reformation Church at Beusselstrasse 35 and ended at around 15:50 p.m. at the main train station. Some of the demonstrators wore Olaf Scholz's typical dress code of suit trousers, white shirt and red tie. At the end of the protest march, the moderator announced from a stage that a scientist from the Expert Council was here. After the scientist gave a speech, the demonstrators dressed as Olaf Scholz threw her off the stage to show how disrespectfully Scholz treats the scientists from the Climate Expert Council and disregards and ignores their findings.

On August 22.08.2023, XNUMX, the Scholz government's Climate Expert Council issued a devastating verdict on the implementation and compliance with the Climate Protection Act. Even after the climate protection program has been fully implemented, there is one
larger implementation gap than stated by the federal government, there is a lack of a coherent overall concept, the 2023 climate protection program does not meet the requirements of the Federal Climate Protection Act, and the goals it has set itself are inadequate. [1,2]

On the same day, the Chancellor claimed Olaf Scholz"I am firmly convinced that with these measures we are doing exactly what is needed to ensure that Germany becomes CO2045 neutral in 2."[2]

In addition, the Federal Government's own Climate Expert Council confirms that the plan to phase out fossil fuels by 2045 is far too late. [3]

This week, the Last Generation is offering various protest training courses to prepare as many people as possible for peaceful resistance in the coming weeks and months. On Saturday, September 16.09.2023th, 13, another protest march will take place in Berlin from 18.09.2023 p.m., as will be organized every Saturday in the coming months. The announced traffic blockades, which will last indefinitely, will begin from Monday, September XNUMX, XNUMX.

[2]"The Expert Council therefore states that the climate protection program presented for 2023
does not meet the requirements of the Federal Climate Protection Act for a climate protection program. (…) “Systematic monitoring would be important to check whether the targeted reduction quantities have actually been achieved. There is also no precise schedule for the implementation of relevant cross-sector measures of the 2023 climate protection program
.” (p.39)
"Both the Federal Climate Protection Act and the European requirements for burden sharing result in an immediate and significant need for action for the Federal Government.” (p.40)  Expertenrat-klima.de/content/uploads/2023/09/ERK2023_Stellungnahme-zum-Entwurf-des-Klimaschutzprogramms-2023.pdf

[3] According to the SRU, with a linear reduction until 2031, the 1,5 degree limit will be met with a 50% probability. 2030 instead of 2031, since we would have to have already started the reduction in 2022: www.umweltrat.de/SharedDocs/Downloads/DE/04_Stellungnahmen/2020_2024/2022_06_fragen_und_antworten_zum_co2_budget.pdf?__blob=publicationFile&v=30.
If you increase the probability to 83% - which would be quite appropriate given that the aim is to prevent tipping points from being exceeded - the budget for Germany has already been used up today, according to the SRU (Ibid. p. 15).
