Munich, September 1.9.2023th, 8, 30:XNUMX p.m - Almost 60 constitutional and international law experts emphasized this in an open letter published yesterdaythat the cause of the Last Generation protests is completely justified. The federal government violates the constitution when it does not adequately protect our livelihoods - this has now been officially confirmed.
On the same day, 4 people are detained without due process for up to 30 days to prevent them from continuing their protest. This not only contradicts the Bavarian Interior Minister's promise from December 2022. He said that the extended detention against climate activists would only be used in exceptional cases.
The now imprisoned people of the last generation have been protesting with over 70 other people in Bavaria for over two weeks - against a scientifically proven breach of the constitution. Exactly where the Basic Law was created 75 years ago and where the climate failure is greatest today.
In Bavaria there are double standards: Hailstones the size of tennis balls threaten crops and houses, killing whoever and whatever gets in their way. Politicians only rain appeasing words on this. At the same time, peaceful protesters are going to prison for a month without a sentence because reassuring words are no longer enough for them and they are demanding that the population be protected from extreme events like these.
Instead of the inconvenient truth that was announced yesterday by constitutional experts - “The Last Generation Right” - to recognize and stand up for the values of the constitution, real climate protection is still being denied and people are working hard to put protest that puts their finger in the wound behind bars.
⚠️ Currently 14 people in preventive detention

The last generation sees our society at a turning point in autumn 2023. We are fighting peacefully for a better future and will continue to protest in Bavaria.
Imprisonment as a way out of our protest is an expression of the insane clinging to the path to global climate chaos with catastrophic consequences. But the Last Generation will not accept this madness without resistance. More and more people are joining us to protect our rights, freedoms and values. The Last Generation is on the side of the constitution.
