Würzburg, August 14.8.2023, 16, 30:XNUMX a.m – While the government is still closing its eyes and ears to its responsibility in the ever-escalating climate catastrophe, dozens of committed citizens are currently gathering in the center of Würzburg and are opposing inaction and repression. In the north of Bavaria, the land of big words and small deeds, where the foundation stone for our constitution was laid 75 years ago, they march peacefully and resolutely through the city and make it clear: “Allowing climate catastrophe = breach of the constitution”.

Among them is Ernst Hörmann (73), former mechanical engineer and grandfather of eight grandchildren. At last week's press conference, with regard to the frightening future scenarios that our government is currently setting for all future generations, he emphasized: “I can’t just go along with it, I have to do everything I can to protect them from this disaster.”

Today he affirms: “Every child has the right to grow up with the prospect of a future worth living. The extent to which our basic rights will be restricted if the government continues to refuse to stop the destruction of our livelihoods is outrageous. The course we are currently taking, which is already driving people into hunger, thirst and poverty, betrays our human values.”

Today, 75 years after its creation, it is up to all of us to preserve our Constitution and the rights and freedoms that come with it. We are all the last generation that can seize the opportunity to reflect on our values and stand up for a future worth living.
In a social council that addresses the question of how we can end the use of fossil raw materials and thus the destruction of our livelihoods by 2030, the course can be set for a fair, livable future.
