Tübingen's mayor supports the demands of the last generation

Tübingen, March 01.03.2023st, 08, 00:XNUMX a.m – Less than a week after the mayor of the Lower Saxony state capital of Hanover, Belit Onay, who publicly supported the demands of the last generation before the tipping points, is now followed by the mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer

In einer statement published on his Facebook page Palmer is in favor of a social council that should develop a climate protection package for a climate-neutral Germany in 2030. So climate neutrality in 7 years instead of 22, as the current federal policy plans envisage.

"I share your concern to take climate protection seriously and to adapt political decisions to physical requirements.”, writes Palmer with regard to the four representatives of the last generation with whom he met on February 21st in Tübingen town hall.

The Citizens' Council, which is anchored in the coalition agreement, seems to him to be a suitable means of ensuring this while at the same time involving the citizens. Palmer and the last generation also agree on the specific design of such a social council: “For me it is important that the principles of parliamentarism are respected. This means that Parliament and the government must set up such a council of their own accord and should commit themselves to seriously considering the results and translating them into political decisions.”, writes Palmer.

Carla Rochel, spokesperson for Last Generation, on the positioning of the two mayors: “The fact that, after the mayor of Hanover, the mayor of Tübingen is now also publicly speaking out in favor of a climate society council is a big milestone for us."

"These are successes of our protest, because it draws attention like a magnifying glass to the destruction of our livelihoods. They show that the peaceful path we have chosen is the right one. We call on the federal government to follow the example of the two mayors and finally start discussions.”, like this rochel continue.
