Heilbronn, March 6.3.2023, 14, 30:XNUMX p.m – In summary proceedings at the Heilbronn district court, two Last Generation supporters were just sentenced to several months in prison without parole for a single road blockade. This is the first time a German court has decided on this breach of the dam - the first prison sentence. Immediately after the verdict was announced, the convicts stopped traffic again on the B27/Neckarsulmer Straße towards the city center in Heilbronn.
The examined one Geriatric nurse Rüdiger Einholz (36) says after being sentenced to two months in prison:
“As humanity we are facing an existential threat. Our government is obliged by the constitution to protect our lives, but right now it is fueling the climate catastrophe that will destroy all of our lives.”
Previously he had Convicted Daniel Eckert, In its statement during the trial the court reminded:
“Imagine this: people like you and me, with hopes and dreams, with ambitions and plans, loving and being loved - wiped out by a catastrophic flood. Burnt in a forest fire. Died in a heatwave. Starved in a famine. Shot in a war over water. Drowned in the Mediterranean while trying to escape.”
He was sentenced to three months in prison.
Rüdiger Einholz and Daniel Eckert, as well as the five other supporters of the last generation, were convicted for their love for the Basic Law. They were stuck on a street in Heilbronn a month ago, on February 6th. Shortly after the much-debated covering of the Basic Law tablets in Berlin in oil, Interior Minister Faeser spoke out in favor of consistent punishment.
Raúl Semmler, one of the local speakers of the last generation, says about today's accelerated procedure:
“Hundreds of thousands are now actively committed to more climate protection. Today two of them were sentenced to prison terms without parole. For a world without chaos, without climate collapse, in which our basic rights - our life, our freedom - can be preserved. Nobody can be indifferent to our constitution.”
The five other supporters of the Last Generation were sentenced to 60 daily rates. The court did not recognize that their actions could be viewed as justified in the direct context of the climate crisis and thus the impending and irretrievable loss of livelihoods.
The Last Generation announces further protests across Germany.
