Berlin, June 16.02.2023, 19, 35:XNUMX a.m – Supporters of the last generation before the tipping points just interrupted the opening of the 73rd International Film Festival in Berlin. The two committed people crossed the barrier and stuck themselves to the red carpet with superglue. Amidst shiny robes, they made it unignorably clear in simple T-shirts with the inscription: “Last Generation” that the current government, the current society, is the last, the one left Opportunity has to prevent the course into a climate hell with billions of deaths.
Before she heads to the red carpet, explains Lisa Winkelmann (20): “We are racing unchecked into an unimaginable catastrophe. We as a society can no longer afford to ignore the approaching collapse. If we indulge in escapism any longer, we will break the first climate tipping points and unleash a deadly avalanche from which there is no escape.”
Raphael Voellmy (26) is also taking part in today's protest. He emphasizes: “Events like this one tempt people to ignore the acute danger. But if we continue as before, there will be no more events like this. Promoting sustainability on a small scale, as the Berlinale does, is important, but it alone will not save us. We have to turn things around now. Let us come together in a social council and work out how we can overcome this unprecedented test together.”
