Yesterday, Wednesday, January 25.01.2023th, 09, the main hearing against four Last Generation supporters took place at 00:24 a.m. at the Nuremberg District Court. The two women and two men, aged 65 to XNUMX, were summoned to court for taking part in a peaceful road blockade last year.

The extremely high sentence demanded was extraordinary. According to the will of the public prosecutor should be suspended. In his closing speech he even spoke of “particularly severe coercion” and blamed the people involved “anti-democratic behavior”

The chairwoman contradicted this judge decided. She confirmed that the defendants for “good and right goals” protest. Instead of nine months in prison, she only imposed a small fine of 40 daily rates.

Much to the dismay of the public prosecutor. The presiding judge had to repeatedly reprimand the public prosecutor and interrupted his bold interventions with clear words: “I’m in charge here!”, “Back off with your salutation!”, “Do you want to withdraw my mandate to ask questions now?”

Maya Winkelmann (24), one of the people involved in the protest explains after the hearing: “Even if we think it's a shame that the judge's courage wasn't quite enough for an acquittal today, we can count it a success. There is controversy over whether citizens in our country are allowed to intervene when the federal government breaks its own constitution.”

“The breach of Article 20a of our Basic Law can no longer be ignored. Through our protest, the courts and the public have to deal with this. That’s exactly what we wanted to achieve.”, continued Winkelmann.

Last Generation supporters assume that the public prosecutor's office will appeal against today's verdict. Regardless, the climate catastrophe continues to worsen and so their protests will continue. The last word is far from spoken.
