Munich, September 5.12.2022, 8, 30:XNUMX a.m - As announced last Friday, determined supporters of the Last Generation are once again blocking a street on Munich's Karlsplatz to demand the first security measures against the climate catastrophe. Among them are many who have already been in prison for a month and were sometimes sentenced to high fines. At the same time, people are climbing onto sign bridges in Munich, while others are blocking roads in Berlin.

Joel Smith was in preventive custody in the Stadelheim JVA for 23 days and was only released about a week ago. In the press conference last Friday, he emphasized why that wouldn't stop him from taking to the streets in Munich again: “Climate protection is the prerequisite for all political concerns. It's about preserving our livelihoods and preserving the freedom guaranteed by fundamental rights. We will not let prison sentences deter us from fighting for a good future.”

In the press conference had Schmitt announced today's road blockade and his participation in it. He turned to his fellow human beings: “We can bring about the change that is needed. We call on everyone who does not want to accept the government’s climate failure to join in and join in.”

speaker Aimee van Baalen clarifies: “Today, our peaceful resistance is once again being responded to with disproportionate severity, while discussions about its criminalization are gaining momentum. I would like to repeat what Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, has to say about this: 'The real dangerous radicals are not climate activists, but those countries that are expanding fossil fuel production.' Everyone has to decide which side they would rather be on.”

Despite a heavy police presence, the determined people managed to sit peacefully on the street and stop the traffic.
Van Baalen clarifies: “We will not allow ourselves to be deterred from demanding that the government respect the constitution. Neither hundreds of police nor prison sentences will stop us from coming back with more and more people. In this life-threatening emergency, in which billions of human lives are acutely threatened, there is no longer any neutrality.”

She further explains: “Everyone – including politicians and the police – must now take a clear stand: Are you against peaceful citizens who are committed to the future? Do they really want to spend their energy suppressing legitimate protest and locking people away for months as a precaution? Or are they for the survival of humanity and initial safety measures, such as a speed limit on motorways, which the population has long been in favor of broad agreement gives?"

As long as the government continues to make unconstitutional decisions and trample on solid national and international agreements, the Last Generation will oppose this deadly course.
