Essen, August 10.12.2022, 14, 10:XNUMX p.m – Supporters of the last generation sprayed the RWE headquarters with paint today. Instead of finally pulling the emergency brake and initiating the necessary change, the federal government continues to support fossil companies and their shareholders.

Lina Eichlerwho is currently spraying paint on the RWE facade in Essen:
“The government promotes fossil fuels and makes the rich richer and richer. At the same time, the population is suffering from immensely rising prices and we are racing uncontrollably towards climate collapse. We need investment in a secure future, not in a dying industry. The first safety measures are now needed, such as a speed limit of 100 km/h as a sign from the federal government that it is finally taking the threatening situation seriously.”

Aimee van Baalen, speaker of the Last Generation, explains one consequence of the political failure:
"We started our actions this spring with 30 people. Now there are 700 of us and the number is increasing every day. According to Germany trend is A large proportion of eligible voters are so concerned that they believe it is justified to block roads (14%) and to occupy factories, industrial plants or offices (21%). That’s more people than voted for the SPD in 2021!” [1]

The energy sector is currently responsible for two thirds of the greenhouse gases that are harmful to the climate and therefore the most important driver of the climate catastrophe. The state holds a protective hand over huge fossil fuel corporations that drive people out of their homes and knowingly destroy the livelihood of all humanity.

RWE plans to extract over 600 million tons of coal from the Garzweiler opencast mine and to destroy the village of Lützerath with the support of the NRW state government.
Have against it 11 people have already publicly announced civil resistance and signed the following declaration of intent: “If the state government wants to clear Lützerath and demolish it, I will be there and stand in the way of the destruction.”

“The willingness for civil resistance against the deadly business as usual is growing every day. Attempts, like the latest one from Munich, to prevent peaceful protests are no more deterrent than fines or prison cells.”, explained Carla Rochel, speaker of the Last Generation. “There is no longer any neutrality. Don't stand idly by and watch as fossil companies burn down our future in the slipstream of the government. Support those who stand up for our rights: Come with us to Berlin and Munich!”
