Announcement of Stachus blockade – We will carry on, come what may!

This Saturday, seven Last Generation supporters were released from the prison after two weeks of preventive detention. Two others will also spend Christmas in custody. The reason for their deprivation of liberty is their peaceful disruption of public life, with which they are calling on the federal government to adhere to Article 20a of the Basic Law and its own climate protection promises.

However, instead of taking appropriate steps, there is now a ban on gatherings in which participants fixate themselves on the street. Several thousand euros in fines were threatened if the climate-conscious citizens violated this. In view of the thousands of people who have lost their lives to the consequences of global warming this year alone, the supporters of the Last Generation will not be intimidated. They openly announce that they will gather at Munich's Stachus on Tuesday, December 20.12th at 08:00 a.m. and continue to resist. [1]

The threat of renewed preventive detention also holds Judith not stop from blocking the Stachus again on Tuesday. The mother of two was locked up in the Stadelheim prison for almost the entire month of November: “The government has known for years that we are in the middle of a climate catastrophe. We mourn the flood victims and suffer from the scorching heat. And these are just harbingers of disasters that will threaten the prosperity and lives of all of us."

"I will continue, come what may! Quitting is not an option. If we fail to remind the government of its primary duties, our entire society will fail.

The government has signed the Paris Climate Agreement and committed to taking concrete steps to curb the rise in global temperatures to be kept well below two degrees Celsius, if possible below 1,5 degrees, compared to the pre-industrial age. These limits were deliberately chosen because they are the scientifically identified danger area. From just 1,5 degrees, the risk of triggering tipping cascades increases massively. These would then push the earth into a hot period of 4 degrees or more without human intervention.

The 1,5 degree limit will be missed around 2030. The German government also hesitated for too long. Our society is already inevitably heading into the red zone, where any step further into it could have unforeseen and deadly consequences. Therefore, all necessary measures must be taken as quickly as possible to guarantee the safety of the population. Simple concrete steps would, for example, reintroduce the 9 euro ticket and a speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways. Both measures together would be practical from tomorrow save more CO2 than the city of Stuttgart consumes

These measures would reduce dangerous CO2 emissions while promoting social cohesion. Because the 9 euro ticket means freedom for many people. You can prioritize climate protection every day and at the same time visit relatives for the first time again without worrying about the end of the month when you might not have enough money. The Taz wrote about it"Deutsche Bahn belongs to the state and therefore to all citizens. But for decades the high ones, in some cases horrendous prices ensured that social selection was carried out here.[..] The 9 euro ticket therefore only highlights what Deutsche Bahn could be: a comfortable, contemporary, climate-friendly and socially just means of transport."
