Climate goals missed: What if the government doesn't have it under control?

Berlin, June 10.10.2022, 8, 15:XNUMX a.m â€“ Numerous people of the last generation are currently bringing Berlin traffic to a standstill. They are blocking the city motorway in several locations and are demanding a speed limit on motorways and affordable public transport for everyone. The banners they hold up in the cold morning air show their guiding question: “What if the government doesn’t have this under control?”

October 10.10.2022, XNUMX - Numerous people of the last generation are bringing Berlin to a standstill.

Jacob Beyer (28) broke off his carpentry apprenticeship to join the civil resistance. He clarifies: “We have to speak plainly now. This summer was the hottest in Europe since records began. In Brandenburg, people's properties were burned down, and the extreme heat claimed thousands of lives across the country. The situation is clear: 'We have an emergency!'”

Solvig Schinköthe (42), mother of four children, takes to the streets with her daughter Lina.
She explains : “I want a safe world for my children! With meadows and forests, cohesion and peace. Why aren't even the simplest safety measures like a speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways finally being implemented? You have to ask yourself: What if the government doesn’t have this under control?”

And even a federal authority is sounding the alarm: At the 12th Extreme Weather Congress, which recently took place in Hamburg, Tobias Fuchs, board member of the German Weather Service, made it clear: “We are now experiencing climate change right on our doorstep and are directly affected ourselves."

In a letter to the federal government, the last generation offered to stop the disruptions at any time if at least the first, simplest security measures were taken. Until then, hundreds of citizens will be forced to interrupt everyday life in Berlin, as anything else would be tantamount to capitulation in the face of the impending catastrophe.
The letter has so far remained unanswered.
