Frankfurt am Main, September 10.09.2022, 15, 40:XNUMX p.m – Four Last Generation supporters just interrupted the Bundesliga game Eintracht Frankfurt against VfL Wolfsburg in the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt am Main to draw attention to the existential threat to our society posed by the climate catastrophe. Shortly after the start of the first half, they ran onto the field. Their T-shirts read “Stop fossil fuel madness!”
Jacob Beyer (28) on why he disrupts the game: “Exactly five months ago today we interrupted the Eintracht game here in the Commerzbank Arena. Just like five months ago, today we are again calling on the population to resist our government, which is steering us into the abyss. This is the only way our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be able to experience football games like this one.”

Leah Bonasera (24), co-initiator of the Last Generation: “We cannot continue to stand idly by and see how normality and everyday life are lived even though we are hurtling toward catastrophe. While we are looking at lush green lawns here, people all over the world are already faced with dried-up rivers, burnt forests and destroyed cities and villages.”
In its warning, the Last Generation refers to institutions such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the UN. These warn regularly and unequivocally about the consequencesthat await us due to political failure in the face of climate collapse. UN Secretary General Guterres said: “This renunciation of leadership is criminal. Under current commitments, global emissions will rise by almost 14 percent in the current decade. This spells disaster.”
