Dresden, August 22.08.2022, 12, 10:XNUMX p.m. - Two people from the last generation stuck to Raphael's “Sistine Madonna” this morning. With their action in the Dresden Picture Gallery, the determined citizens are making it clear that the climate catastrophe that is advancing worldwide cannot be ignored.
Jakob Beyer (28), who broke off his carpentry apprenticeship to join the civil resistance while clinging to the 'Sistine Madonna': “The climate catastrophe is an unprecedented threat of incredible proportions. Murderous droughts, devastating heat, all-consuming forest fires: this will increase dramatically in the next few years. Not just here in Germany. Not just in Saxon Switzerland, the most important local recreation area in Dresden. But worldwide!”
Maike Grunst (21) adds as she sticks to the world-famous painting: “The internationally famous Sistine Madonna is a strong symbol: Mary and Jesus look into the future with fear. They look forward to Christ's death on the cross with horror. An equally predictable death will also be the result of climate collapse. All over the world!”
With today's action, the last generation also shows solidarity with Christian Bläul (40). The German software developer and father of two had a meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 17.08th. together with “Återställ Våtmarker” (Restore Wetlands) raised awareness of climate collapse with a peaceful sit-in. In an urgent trial he was subsequently sentenced to at least 9 days in prison. During yesterday's action by the Swedish sister organization “Återställ Våtmarker”, another German citizen, Kevin Hecht (30), was arrested and is being held in custody for an indefinite period of time.
“Everything we hold dear will be destroyed by the climate catastrophe. Global warming affects us all: in every country, every industry and every sector of society. In order to survive, we have to act immediately!” says Carla Hinrichs (25), one of the speakers of the Last Generation.
