Sonja Manderbach (45), church musician and motherwhile being taken into custody by police: “I am determined to continue to stand in the way of our government’s destructive course. Even if they threaten me with punishment or put me in a solitary cell, I will come back. As soon as they release us, we will be back on the streets with more people. “We all, including the police and the judiciary, now have a choice: do we choose the survival of humanity or do we prefer to imprison people for their peaceful resistance to annihilation?”

Ronia (16), who actually still goes to school, blocked a Berlin highway for the second time today. She is afraid of the future because politics continues to fail to live up to its responsibility in the climate crisis.

Eike, Ronja's mother, as she sticks herself to the street next to her daughter: “We are here today because we are afraid of the climate crisis and the future associated with it. I'm afraid for my children's future! But also because we have the hope of being able to change something through civil resistance! Mr. Scholz, give up new North Sea oil for our children!”

A few days ago, former Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin spoke on television about the road blockades of the last generation. When asked whether this peaceful protest was an appropriate means, he replied:

“Civil disobedience is based on breaking the law. Even at the risk of being sanctioned yourself. I think it's important for people to get involved. […] the pressure that was made on the street has already found an echo.”
