The climate catastrophe doesn't take a summer break! – Last generation continues to block.

Berlin, October 07.07.2022, 8, 00:XNUMX a.m - While Olaf Scholz wants to say goodbye for the summer break, citizens of the last generation are once again blocking traffic in Berlin today and calling on the self-proclaimed 'climate chancellor' to fulfill his responsibility: plans for new oil drilling in the North Sea should be dropped.

“Scholz’s record is fatal. He is steering us with ever increasing speed into a world that is 2, 3, 4 degrees hotter, in which water shortages, hunger, flight and wars will be the order of the day.”, sums up Henning Jeschke (22), co-founder of the Last Generation.

He further says: “You are breaking the constitution, Mr. Scholz, by deliberately escalating the climate crisis. Do you want to go on summer break? You are running away from your responsibilities! The climate catastrophe doesn’t take a summer break!”

Leah Bonasera (24), also co-founder of Last Generation, adds: “In this apocalyptic catastrophe, our government must remain faithful to its own constitution! [3] Where the heat destroys the harvest and floods take everything with them, human dignity and the livelihood of our children are also destroyed. Also for all future generations! This is not the time for a summer break. It is time to correct the inhumane wrong decisions.”

Janine O'Keeffe, one of the co-founders of Fridays for Future, joined the peaceful resistance of climate activists this week. Today she is still blocking streets in Berlin together with the Last Generation. She says:
“All of you join the peaceful civil resistance of the Last Generation! These people are reluctantly but sensibly blocking roads, in accordance with the IPCC's latest report. The alternative is: 'Risking all life on earth!' (Johan Rockström, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research)”

The last generation is demanding from Chancellor Scholz that there should be no new drilling for oil in the North Sea. Instead, oil must be saved. Simple steps to achieve this are a speed limit and free public transport. A corresponding statement from Scholz will end the peaceful disruptive actions.
