Berlin, October 12.07.2022th, 9, XNUMX:XNUMX a.m – The citizens of the last generation are blocking the Berlin A100 again today. Despite nights in individual cells, accusations of criminal offenses and 241 euros in costs just for solving the problem, people are determined. According to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, we only have 2-3 years to decide on the future of humanity.
Since the number of people exceeded the judicial capacity, some citizens were released from custody yesterday evening, even though they had previously announced that they would immediately block again.
Psychologist Lars Werner (30), before he was taken into custody overnight yesterday:
“To everyone out there who understands that we have a climate catastrophe and that we are on the verge of the collapse of our livelihoods. There is no longer any neutrality in 2022, where Germany and Europe are burning and drying out, where billions of people are starving, where people are losing their homes due to floods. And it is unfortunately the case that no resistance now means supporting this system, which will inevitably destroy itself and thus cause untold suffering. So, join us! Resist!”
Chancellor Olaf Scholz is still silent on the demand that no new oil drilling be carried out in the North Sea in the face of the climate catastrophe. For Henning Jeschke (22), Co-initiator of the Last Generation, this means a failure of the government in the greatest need:
“With his ignorance, Chancellor Scholz is fueling the greatest injustice and suffering in the history of humanity. The government is leaving the population alone to deal with the climate catastrophe. Worse still, it is breaking the Constitution! Because it is wantonly gambling away all of our lives and the lives of future generations.”
While Scholz would remain silent and citizens would fear for their future, we would race unchecked towards climate catastrophe. Droughts and extreme heat are raging in southern Europe, Italy is declaring a drought emergency. And a heat wave with up to 45 °C is also announced for Germany next week - as Renate Künast already noted when she defended the road blockades against criminalization.
