After the federal government failed to respond substantively to our urgent concern to protect our livelihoods, avert climate collapse and, as a first step, to make a declaration of life against new fossil infrastructure, we - The Last Generation - announce the continuation of the disruption. In one open letter to the federal government Today we once again explained its historical responsibility in the climate crisis and called on you to take the first steps that are now absolutely necessary.
“We experience the current emergency as a tragedy for our country and will therefore consistently continue the disruption through peaceful civil resistance, even if we do so in view of the needs of our fellow human beings, who we interrupt in their everyday lives and on the way to work , can only be very sorry. But what are we left with if we are let down by the government?asks Lea Bonasera, addressed to the German federal government.
In the past few weeks, we have peacefully interrupted the deadly flow of oil by turning off pipelines with our names and faces countless times. While we received great support from the population, we also had to realize that this means did not seem to be able to significantly shape the public discourse or bring about the necessary reaction from those responsible. This requires a public disruption by disrupting everyday life.
“It is very clear to us that we are prepared to peacefully risk everything towards a democratic emergency economy in order to lead our society out of this climate collapse. We believe that in view of the closing time window, the only way to appeal to the ideas of justice of our fellow human beings - including you - is through peaceful civil resistance, morally and strategically“, says Henning Jeschke addressed to the German federal government.
In the last few weeks we have organized lectures and meetings across Germany and trained more and more people in non-violent, civil resistance. From June 18th, we will make the highways a place of peaceful resistance with far more people than before in Berlin. We must act now as if our lives depended on it – because it does.
Every Thursday on Zoom! 18:00 p.m. to 19:00 p.m.
A lecture about the climate catastrophe, the denial of reality and the possibility of taking responsibility at this unique time in human history. The first step to take action!
