Leipzig, May 12.05.22, 15 30:XNUMX p.m. – Prof. Helge Peukert and Prof. Niko Paech from the University of Siegen show solidarity in one Stellungnahme with the university cast in Leipzig. Students are now occupying the Audimax at Leipzig University for the second day in a row. The Rector, Prof. Dr. Eva Inés Obergfell has so far rejected the student body's demand for a declaration of life.

Lina Schinköthe, 20, student at the University of Leipzig: “We are staying because we urgently need our university to declare its life. We are grateful to Prof. Peukert and Prof. Paech for their support. We call on everyone else to also show solidarity with us and take a stand against the fossil fuel madness of our federal government. Come by and occupy the university with us! Or sign ours Appeal to the principal!"

Lilly Schubert, 23, one of the occupiers of the Audimax at Leipzig University: “The university remains occupied! In conversation with us today, the Rectorate was not prepared to make a declaration of life and speak out against new oil drilling in the North Sea. It was also unwilling to have a public conversation about our demands after we had already been promised this.”

After yesterday's lecture "Our responsibility in times of climate emergency - What you can do in civil resistance" by Henning Jeschke, co-founder of the Last Generation, at the University of Leipzig, students occupied the Audimax. They demand an immediate declaration of life from the principal. The Rector Prof. Dr. Eva Inés Obergfell should speak out officially, publicly and addressed to Robert Habeck against the construction and financing of new fossil infrastructure. In particular against new oil drilling in the North Sea and new liquid gas terminals.

In doing so, the students support the current demand of the Last Generation “Stop the Fossil Madness” campaign.
