May 30, 2022 at 8:45 am – This morning last generation road blockades are taking place again in 6 German cities; 2 more are still being planned today. With their nationwide disruptions, people are demanding a declaration of life from Robert Habeck: No more new fossil infrastructure, especially no new oil drilling in the North Sea. Instead, they are calling for a real energy and heat transition.
“Our dependence on fossil fuels is deadly. Because of them, we are held hostage by dictators and finance their murders - like now in Ukraine. But oil, gas and coal are also destroying our livelihoods and the future of our children here in Germany.”said mother Sonja Manderbach, who was blocking a street in Bremen with others this morning.
He continued: “We demand that we free ourselves from this destructive dependency as quickly as possible. We can only do this if we finally expand renewable peace and freedom technologies such as solar and wind and at the same time save massive amounts of energy. However, further expansion of fossil infrastructure, such as new oil drilling in the North Sea, means more droughts, flood disasters and famine – here too.”
Student Carla Rochel (20), who is sitting on the street in Heidelberg this morning: “We call on all of our fellow human beings: let us act as if our survival depends on it. Because it does! If we citizens now unite and engage in determined civil resistance, then we can still leave the path of fossil fuel destruction. But we only have a few years left, so come to our lectures, our training courses and take to the streets with us!”
This morning people are blocking streets in Cologne, Stuttgart, Bremen, Heidelberg (2 places), Braunschweig and Kempten. The Last Generation is announcing road blockades in two more German cities this Monday.
